North Dakota car crash after first snow injures 2, kills 1

Road conditions in North Dakota are always extra hazardous after the first snowfalls. A snow dusting, mist and light rain at the start of winter can cause highways to be slicker than expected. Any driver who does not take extra care can become the victim of a car crash and could also cause harm to others. Authorities remind motorists to travel at lower speeds, which will extend travel time, and for that reason, they must leave earlier to avoid the need to rush.

A North Dakota Highway Patrol spokesperson says several accidents occurred during the first snowfall of the season on Highway 22 in the vicinity of Dickinson. In one of those accidents, a 63-year-old driver of a pickup truck was heading south on the highway when a northbound pickup truck driver lost control on the slippery road surface and entered the southbound lanes. The two trucks collided, and emergency workers had to extricate the occupants from both vehicles.

The 69-year-old driver who crossed the center line was taken to one medical facility from where he was airlifted to another hospital. The driver of the other truck and his 81-year-old passenger were also rushed to a hospital. Sadly, the passenger did not survive his injuries.

When a car crash is caused by the negligence of another party, the injured victims and the surviving family members of those who lost their lives may seek financial relief. The civil justice system of North Dakota allows people to file personal injury or wrongful death claims to pursue recovery of damages. The support and guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney can be an invaluable asset during the navigation of such a lawsuit.
